Overview

Fisherman’s Rock is a well known spot on Waiheke for fishing, it is a rocky terrain that has a small path and a couple flights of steps leading down to it from Newton road Oneroa.

Fisherman’s rock is on the northside of the island, it is a wide scaled area full of jagged and also some flat rocks that also have deep crevices of water in amongst the rock faces occasionally sea life can be found in them, i once spotted a large pink jelly fish floating on the surface.

Fisherman’s rock is surrounded by the open ocean, if you don’t cast far enough you can get snagged or come across kelp but other than that its always good fishing.

Just around the corner from fisherman’s rock is a old popular local spot called Divers rock or the blowhole where for many decades local teenagers and adults climb to the top of the rock and dive in. Ive never done it but my husband use to often when he was younger.

The big jump is 20m and only do able during high tide but a bit west from that spot is a smaller rock with a couple levels you can jump off.

  • Smaller Car – Parking is found on at the end of Newton road
  • Wheelchair – No
  • Truck/Boat – No
  • Bike – No
  • Walking – Newton road or there is another path from Little Oneroa

The best way to access Fishermans rock is parking at the end of Newton road ( this street is located off Queens drive).
There is a small walking path and signage leading you in the right direction, follow this path until you reach a clearing, walk down a slight incline on the grass that will take you to two paths.

Path 1 – The right path is a cute little look out called Epiphany Point ( take a seat and enjoy the views)

Path 2 – Left path way follow this path this will lead you to the fishing, this is the path with all the steps this is your way down and also way up.

Once down well just find a spot to cast out there are plenty of rocks, me and my husband like to go right out by the point during low tide.

Rubbish

Please take home everything you brought with you when you leave.

Keep our oceans clean we are always taking home found rubbish and lines when we fish. Sea life pay the price when rubbish and fishing lines are left behind.

  • Fishing lines and equipment
  • Drinking Cans, bottle caps, bottles
