Overview

Otakawhe Bay is a gorgeous bay located on Nepean Ave in Orapiu, many bays in Orapiu are accessed only via private driveways, this one can be accessed easily to the public.

Otakawhe can be entered via Anzac road the upperside, turn right and follow the scenic/windy no exit road, this road will link on to Nepean Ave or there is a walking track from Orapiu wharf.

Otakawhe Bay is made of pebbles and rocks very similar to Hekerua bay and is largely covered at high tide. It is located south from Orapiu wharf and has a walking track to another beautiful bay called Pearl Bay. These bays are also in the Te Matuku Marine Reserve, meaning that whilst recreational activities are allowed, disturbances to marine life such as fishing is not permitted.

The bay faces the Tamaki Strait and looks in the direction of Kawakawa Bay. It is a bit of a drive out from the main parts of Waiheke, Orapiu is at the other end of the island. So if you are traveling out make sure to pack lunch and drinks as there are no shops available.

The closest toilet is at Orapiu wharf the lower side of Anzac Road.

There are some parking spots at the end of Nepean road but its very limited, please keep in mind of driveways of residents.
