Waiheke has a range of small to medium carparks, but most car parking on the island is roadside. This is how locals park when off-street parking is not available. Many Waiheke driveways are too steep for parking, or the homes simplydo not have a driveway. When heading out, many locals still park roadside. A common reason for this is that carparks have a limited parking time or are paid only. Parking roadside has unlimited duration as long as the car has a current warrant and registration.
Waiheke also has a few carparks owned by a business or collection of businesses. These carparks typically have customer only parking signs or short time limits. The island only has one undercover carpark. All of the other carparks are open and exposed to the elements. The total number of public places where more than a dozen cars can park is limited. I will try to list every carpark and small carpark on Waiheke so that you know all the possible options.
Matiatia Main Carpark
Matiatia main carpark is the largest carpark on Waiheke Island. It is split into a variety of zones and has many parking options. These include 30 minute free parking, 24 hour parking, drop off only, disability parking, motorbike/scooter parking, bus parking and a taxi stand. All parking in the Matiatia carpark requires your car or bike to be registered and warranted if applicable. In cases where you have a 50cc scooter, then only the registration is needed.
Matiatia main carpark is a paid parking lot. If you pay on the app, parking is either $3.50 or $6.50. If you are paying in person at the parking lot the cost is either $4.00 or $7.00 as a $0.50 fee is added

Matiatia Upper Carpark
Matiatia upper gravel carpark or “Matiatia gravel carpark” – that’s what the locals call it. The official name is Owhanake Carpark. The parking lot is 8-10 minutes walk from the Fullers terminal. This is much further away from the terminal than Matiatia main carpark. The carpark consists of about 130-150 unmarked gravel parks. You just have to find a parking spot. This carpark is normally busy as you can see from the photos.

Oneroa Main Carpark
Oneroa main carpark or “Oneroa back carpark” – that’s what most locals call it – is located behind the main Oneroa shops. The carpark is split up into two main carparks. They are accessed via Oue Road or Weka Road. Oue Road parking lot is larger and allows for more parking, but unfortunately it can be full during peak hours of the day. Weka Road parking is narrow and a lot older with fewer carparks. These two carparks are almost connected.

Wharf Road Carpark
There are about 6-8 parks designed for cars towing boats, plus some side parking for regular length cars. There is a dinghy/kayak storage rack. Waiheke locals leave dinghies parked around the storage rack and on the edge of the ramp. About 50 metres back from the parking lot there are about 3-6 gravel carparks. Take care when visiting this carpark as the road has caved in and has not been properly fixed.

Surfdale Main Carpark
Surfdale main carpark is located at 20b Hamilton Road or 2 Miami Ave. It has a wide range of parking types that consist of 20 flat carparks, 1 disability carpark, 5 motorbike carparks, 2 carparks for charging electric vehicles, and a steel dome toilet. The carpark is wide enough to easily turn around in.

Kennedy Point Carpark
The Kennedy Point carpark is located at 108 Donald Bruce Road, close to the Sea Link ferry terminal. It has a wide range of parking types that consist of 60 flat carparks, 1-2 disability carparks, 5 motorbike carparks, 2 carparks for charging electric vehicles, and longer parks for boats and trailers.
Many commuters avoid this carpark and park on Kennedy Point Road instead. There are a few reasons for this. The main one is time limits. Kennedy Point carpark only allows for 24 hour parking but Waiheke commuters want to be able to leave their car over the weekend without getting a ticket. You can regularly see 50+ cars parked on the roadside.

Woolworths Carpark
Located under Woolworths Supermarket Waiheke is the underground parking area. This is accessed to the right of the building. Note the underground parking has a max height of 2.25m, so most utes, cars and bikes will fit under the height limit. But some vans, trucks and buses will be over this height limit, so make sure to check the height of your vehicle before going to the carpark. The underground parking time is 90 minutes max for customers. There is a section for charging electric vehicles like Nissan Leaf and Tesla while you get your shopping.
Many locals and visitors use this carpark to go to the market and nearby shops as it is undercover on hot days. This does risk getting a ticket. So be careful when doing this, although I have not heard of anyone getting tickets. Maybe pop into Woolworths to get a pack of gum, then you are technically a customer.

PlaceMakers / Waiheke Living Carpark
PlaceMakers/Waiheke Living have a big carpark out the front, The parking time is 120 minutes max for customers. It has a range of parking types that consist of over 150 flat carparks, 3 disability carpark, parking for Stay Waiheke and a range of staff parking.

Onetangi Secret Carpark
“Onetangi Secret Carpark”- I call it this because the carpark signage is minimal, and trees are now preventing a view of it from the road. This carpark usually has parking available. The parks are free and shade from the trees blocks the sun in the afternoons.
I visited this carpark on a busy weekend in 2026. There were still many parks available and some of those parks were in the shade. I also drove down to the beach to look at other smaller carparks located by Jacob’s Ladder and the bus stop, and they were completely full.

Third Ave / Charlie Farley’s Carpark
If you have visited Charlie Farley’s you might have noticed there is a public carpark on the opposite side of the road. This carpark is for beachgoers, cafe customers or just general use. The carpark has 2 disability parks located at the beach end. The total number of parks is about 30-40, including some longer parallel parks suitable for longer vehicles.
