Overview

Oneroa also known as “Big Oneroa”, this is a popular beach that is just a short walk from the main Oneroa village. In the village you will find plenty of shops and food places to enjoy.

Oneroa is the go to beach for a quick dip in the ocean, socialising or taking your dog for a run. At high tide the water is a brilliant blue and is often filled with yachts seeking safe anchorage.

The beach is lined with pohutukawa trees, it certainly is a beautiful site when they are in flower.

Oneroa Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Waiheke, with its perfect swimming conditions, a BBQ area, public toilets and dog friendly during off the leash hours.

If walking, you can take one of several walkways down from Oneroa Village, from Oneroa Village Lane, Ocean View Road or the main driving access Puriri Road.

There is also a boat ramp access point found on Korora Road which will lead you right onto the beach there is no launch ramp just beach launch (Beach Parade Road)

Key Access Points

Ocean View Road (Puriri Road) (Driving)

If driving or walking Puriri Road is main access road. Leading to Oneroa Beach. Parking is located under the trees or in the small parking lot. (It’s a Very popular Beach so parking can be hard to find during peak seasons)

Oneroa Village Lane or Ocean View Road (Walking/Biking)

Access path Oneroa Village Lane opposite the Island Grocer and the public toilets is a small windy paved walkway. Leading down to Oneroa Beach and exiting out by the beach public toilets.

Access path from Ocean view Road opposite Coin Save and the bus stop there is another small, paved walkway which will lead down the beach coming out by a unpaved turn around.

Korora Road (Boat Access Ramp)

A beach launch ramp located at the far end of Oneroa Beach, accessed via Korora Road. This is for launching and retrieving boats only. It is only for 4WDs and Sealegs, as you can get stuck launching off the sand.

Hire Beach Gear

If you need beach items on your stay at Waiheke. There is a local hire shop called Gear Grab, they have a range of beach items – sea scooters, metal detectors, beach speakers, sea biscuits, beach tents and games starting at a price of $5 for the smaller toys.
