Overview
Waiheke Pioneer Cemetery is a inactive cemetery located in Orapiu. The cemetery is a historical burial site with burial plots dating back from the 1800’s-1930’s.
Waiheke Pioneer Cemetery also known as “Te Matuku Pioneer Cemetery”. It is situated in covered bushland on Orapiu Road overlooking Te Matuku Bay (Mcleods Bay).
The first burial in the cemetery was Peter Migan who died Sept 9th 1886 aged 67 years. Buried along with his wife Catherine and daughter Kate years later.
All burial plots are a number of Waiheke residents and families dating back to the 1800’s

- Kate Bowden – Daughter of Peter and Catherine Migan.
- Fraser Family – Mr and Mrs John Fraser and daughters Lena, Mary and Lexie.
- Ashwin Family – Mr (Deacon) Ashwin, his wife, and daughter Margaret. Mrs Ashwin, daughter of John Fraser.
- Gordon Family – Mr William Gordon, his wife Jane and daughter Lena
- Edith – child, grand-daughter, child of John Day and Maggie nee Gordon
- Esther Day – Buried Feb. 1st 1916, aged 3 years, 10 months.
- Notman – Child. Grand-daughter of Henry Trace of Awaroa Valley.
- Colin Dudley – Beloved son of John and Ellen Pegler who died 20th January 1916 aged 10 months.
- Anne Powell – beloved wife of Samuel Powell.
- Gladys Winifred Connell – Died August 30th 1911 aged 2 years and 7 months.
- Charles Shand Insley – Passed away Feb. 11th 1937 aged 26 years.
- Benjamin Thomas- Died 20th April 1912 aged 85 years.
- Auguste Natszki – Grave near entrance from road.
- Agnes Ann Woolley – Beloved wife of Vernon (Frank) and daughter of William Gordon.
- Bill Hughes – Crimean war veteran.
- Mrs Bendick – Buried 1922.
