Overview
Awaroa vineyard is a small award winning organic vineyard that produces locally grown red wines, and is one of the top two producers of Syrah.
Awaroa wines is a cooperative enterprise formed by the 6 partners of Orapiu grove farm.
The vineyards were first planted in 1998. The name “Awaroa”, means ‘long river’ in Te Reo Māori, which was taken from the name of the stream and valley system. In addition to the vineyard the property also has three olive orchards, producing a small amount of organic olive oil and preserved olives. The vineyards are on gently sloping, west-facing hills in a valley system known as Awaawaroa Valley. The base of the valley contains the stream and the soil is a rich clay extremely suitable for the varieties grown.
They are a self taught vineyard and do everything themselves from land development, planting, picking and more.
All wines under their name are made in their winery.
In addition you can purchase their wines online or at the vineyard. If you would like to experience the beautiful vineyard in person they have a tasting room for guests to enjoy grazing platters and a glass of their finest wines.
