Overview
Orapiu Wharf is a popular place for many Waiheke locals to go fishing. It is located on the other side of Waiheke called the “Bottom End”, so expect a long drive.
The wharf offers stunning views of the surrounding waters and landscapes including Ponui Island and the Tamaki Strait.
Orapiu Wharf is really the only publicly accessible wooden wharf on waiheke. Many others are privately owned. The wharf was built in 1915.
Located on the wharf is a little bus stop shelter to keep your stuff dry or keep out of the wind as it can get very windy. The wharf also has a hose to wash off the deck and bait boards after fishing.
Orapiu is a rural settlement on the southeast coast of Waiheke Island in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. Located at the end of a small peninsula between Te Matuku Bay and Waiheke Channel.
Waiheke ferries fullers360 used to dock near the wharf for many years and take passengers to the coromandel, Rotorua island and Auckland city until the last few years.
There are no shops near Orapiu wharf so pack lunches, drinks and bait. Come prepared before the long 30 minute drive.
There is a sheltered public toilet located near the wharf.
